Hi, I'm Maree - nice to meet you!

I founded BODY CORE in 2004, wanting to bring about change. I wanted to provide an inclusive environment where my clients could get fitter and healthier with an integrative and personalised approach to fitness.

 

Since then, I've helped over 100 clients (ranging in age from 10 to 88, from beginners to elite athletes) achieve their fitness, strength and nutrition goals through custom-designed one-on-one coaching and small group training sessions.

My professional fitness and coaching background spans some 30 years working in Canada, the USA and New Zealand.
 

My professional qualifications include:
 

  • Personal Trainer (including Nutrition) Certification, Auckland University of Technology, NZ

  • Precision Nutrition Coaching Certification (Level 1)

  • TRX Suspension System Certification, Vancouver, Canada

  • AFLCA - Alberta Fitness Leader Certification - Group Training, Portable equipment

Competitive sports background:

 

My personal fitness background includes a very successful 5 year period competing internationally in body building, ultimately winning the Australasian Championship, Senior Figure Division and being accepted to join the New Zealand national team to the World Championship in Spain. I also enjoyed several years of ski racing as well as many years coaching skiing in Canada, USA and New Zealand.

 


 

On a personal note:


 

Have you ever felt like your body has let you down? That your body just doesn’t feel like “you” anymore? Perhaps you find yourself lacking your old physical (and therefore mental) confidence in your sport or even daily activities? I can relate; I've had my fair share of sports injuries, and getting back into shape after the birth of my twins wasn't easy. I wondered if I would ever get back to who I was.

 

But I know that can change – first you need to WANT to make a change and then find the right person to help you. Through my experience and knowledge, I believe I can be that change agent for you.

What kind of fitness and nutrition coaching can you expect from me?

Firstly, I recognize that you are unique – with your own history, needs and goals. I promise to LISTEN and work with you to create a fully customized, safe and effective fitness and/or nutrition plan to help you achieve your personal goals.

Secondly, here's something a bit different about my coaching sessions. Having practiced Hatha yoga from a young age (under the guidance of many great teachers), I also incorporate yoga breathing techniques, movement patterns and mental focus that has served me well in my own fitness journey.

 

Fitness:

We will work together, either one-on-one or in a small group, at my fully equipped private gym in Discovery Ridge, SW Calgary, to first improve your posture, balance, flexibility and stability. This lays a solid foundation for moving on to improving your agility, muscular endurance, strength and power.

I believe in incorporating a wide range of training techniques and equipment to provide the ultimate results. We will work with:

  • Your own bodyweight

  • TRX body weight suspension straps

  • Battle ropes

  • Kettlebells

  • Sliders

  • Agility ladders

  • Stability balls

  • Bands

  • Barbells & dumbbells

  • Pulley machines

  • Cardio machines


If the weather permits, you also have the option to train with me outdoors in Discovery Ridge with panoramic views of the Elbow Valley and the Rockies!

Rehabilitation:

If you are suffering from an injury, I'll work with you in conjunction with your doctor/physiotherapist to monitor and supplement your rehab exercises. I'll be there to support you every step of the way.

Most important, you’ll feel more confident not only physically, but in every aspect of your life.

Nutrition:

We can’t change our body composition without a nutrition check. Think you eat well most of the time? How’s that working for you? Could it be you need a new approach? As with my approach to fitness, I don’t promote one idea or trend over another, but rather will work with you to investigate what works best for your body and your lifestyle. I do believe that eating way more whole foods, especially plant food, is where it’s at – and most of us are sadly lacking in both a variety of protein and water.

Measurement & Accountability:

A good coach will follow your progress and hold you accountable in some mutually agreed upon way. Measuring your progress is actually hugely motivating. I have considerable experience in weight management/body composition tracking and offer continuous fitness and body-change assessments so we can monitor your progress.
