Hydrate to Feel Great: How to Drink More Water Consistently
Although we all know very well that our bodies NEED and work way better when properly hydrated, it can be hard to remember to drink water.
It's easy to let some good habits slide away due to lack of discipline and some pretty unhelpful ones take their place. And that's because that "discipline" word sucks - it really does... So we need to make drinking more water less sucky and more fun.
Here's my tried and true plan of attack - 'coz an attack is necessary here.
How to motivate yourself to hydrate:
1. I purchase two 1 litre Smart water bottles at the grocery store and continually refill them. I like the Smart water bottles simply because they are nice and skinny and so fit my hand well - no other reason.
2. I like to label my bottles #1 and #2 so I can see how much that really is... I fill them up before bed and leave them in the fridge so they are nice and cold and staring me in the face first thing in the morning. I've even gone so far as drawing smiley faces on them!
3. I add motivating fruit slices, mint leaves or cucumber slices for the delicious taste as well as visual appeal - plus some extra health benefits.
4. This time around ( this is not my first rodeo) I've used my marker to show me when I've knocked off each 250 mls - breaking the task into smaller goals diminishes the task right??
4. I will (note my self talk is not 'I plan to') knock off one bottle by lunch time-ish (giving myself a wee bit of realistic leeway) and then it's on to #2.
5. I will get bottle 2 finished by bed time - I don't have to stay up all night to accomplish this; nor do I want to leave it so late that I'm up peeing half the night so it's important to start chipping away at it as early as possible.
If we achieve any of the above steps each day until we get back into the habit of proper hydration, that's a victory. Doing something is a lot better than doing nothing, zilch, nada.
A good mantra to follow is, aim for progress rather than perfection.
